Yazoo's Blues, the brainchild and love child of Maine songwriter and guit-picker Yazoo Chaz, draws music and inspiration from Cleatus "Catfish" Brown, "Neon" Leon Fullerton, and other lesser-known early- and mid-twentieth century troubadours of America's blue highways and byways.

The act's name comes from one of Catfish Brown's instrumental pieces, "Yazoo's Blues." As Leon Fullerton (another rumor in his own time) tells it, Brown was a prolific Mississippi jug band leader, born and bred by the banks of the Yazoo River at a dirt crossroad known locally as Shadrach Junction. He never traveled far from Shadrach, but his pre-and post-WWII influence was extensive.

Local Maine players appearing with Chaz at different times this summer include Americana artist Buddy Moore, jukebox rocker Kool Hand Kal Finison, and blues harpist Waterford Slim.

The act, whose name honors a Catfish Brown's insrumental tune "Yazoo's Blues," features well-trod classics and nearly-lost gems. As Leon Fullerton (another rumor in his own time) tells it, Brown was a prolific Mississippi jug band leader, born and bred by the banks of the Yazoo River at a dirt crossroad known locally as Shadrach Junction. He never traveled far from Shadrach, but his pre-and post-WWII influence was extensive.

The show consists of Chaz and whichever Local players show up to play with him. Appearing with Chaz at different times this spring summer, and fall  include Americana artist Buddy Moore, jukebox rocker Kool Hand Kal Finison, blues harpist Waterford Slim, and others.
